Middle School Writing Contest

The Beyond the Book Press 2026 Middle School Writing Contest invites students entering Grades 6–8 in Fall 2026 to share their creativity through original writing and illustration. Open to eligible Homewood & Flossmoor middle school and homeschooled students, this annual contest provides opportunities for publication, recognition, prizes, and a celebratory awards ceremony. Students may submit one original entry in a category of their choice during the official submission period.

Key Contest Details (full rules below)

  • Open to Homewood & Flossmoor middle school students entering Grades 6–8 in Fall 2026 (including eligible homeschooled students ages 11–14) 

  • Four categories: Short Story, Poetry, Illustration, and Illustrated Story or Poem 

  • One entry per student 

  • Submission window: September 1–30, 2026 

  • Awards include trophies, gift cards, certificates, and publication in the Beyond the Book Press Anthology 

  • Blind judging by literary professionals and Beyond the Book staff

  • Parent/Guardian permission required for all entrants
